Falcon 900b Air-conditioning & Pressurization & APU Flashcards

1
Q

What is the HP 1 used for?

A

It provides extra bleed air when the wing anti-ice is turned on. It is an on/off valve unlike the PRV valves on the other two pneumatic systems (#2 and #3) which are variable valves.

16
Q

If the BLEED OVHT light comes on how does the crew determine which of the 3 bleed air systems is the problem?

A

By turning of the bleed airs on the overhead panel one at a time. When the BLEED OVHT light starts blinking when one of the switches is turned off this blinking indicates the problem system. 21-4

17
Q

From which system(s) are the fuel tanks pressurized?

A

From the auxiliary LP bleed from engines #1 and #2

18
Q

What do the passenger and crew switches on the overhead bleed air panel do?

A

They direct bleed air to the ECU (21-8)

19
Q

The Pax and Crew bleed air valves have three positions - on, off and Auto. What does the Auto position do?

A

On the ground - with power levers less than 54˚ the bleed airs are wide open.

On Takeoff - The valves are closed.

On Liftoff - the valves open gradually taking approximately 2 mins to open.

20
Q

Where is the RAM air supply for the ECU?

A

On the pylon of #1 engine?

21
Q

What is the speed at which cooling for the ECU switches from the internal turbo fan to RAM air?

A

300 KTS TAS

22
Q

What three things will cause the turbofan to spin?

A
  1. Airspeed less than 300 KTS TAS or
  2. Main landing gear extended or
  3. Slats Extended
23
Q

What does the emergency anti-icing valve do?

A

It closes the the hot air flow for turbine and water separator anti-icing in case the main valve gets stuck in the open position. (21-13)

24
Q

If the ECU OVHT button turns on on the ground what will happen?

A

The APU will shut down.

25
Q

What does the emergency pressurization switch do?

A
  1. Closes the cabin air conditioning valve (no flow thru ECU)
  2. Drives the cockpit temperature valve to fully hot.
  3. Arms cockpit manual temp control switch. (21-28)

Basically a mixture of LP/HP bleed air is pumped directly into the cabin.

26
Q

What is the normal cabin dif pressure?

A

9.3 psi

27
Q

The Manual pressurization control is _____ _____ of electrical power.

A

completely independent

28
Q

What are the limits of the automatic pressure controller?

A

-450 ft and +650 ft

29
Q

When would flight level or landing mode be used on the pressurization controller?

A

Whenever the automatic system malfunctions

30
Q

If the red minalco COOLING FAN button is showing on the Maintenance panel what does this mean?

A

The turbo cooling fan of the ECU breaker has blown or is off line. If the reset button on the panel does not make the minalco turn to white then the aircraft needs to go into maintenance immediately.

31
Q

What controls the pressurization system in automatic mode?

A

It is electropneumatically controlled. One critical part of the system is the jet pump which supplies negative pressure air at .29 psi which determines the operation of the system. (21-35)

32
Q

What controls pressurization in the emergency mode?

A

It is pneumatically controlled by the manual controller with the jet pump supplying negative pressure air.

33
Q

When does the HP 1 bleed valve open?

A

When wing anti ice is turned on and the temperature in the duct is less than 192.5˚C. (21-2)

34
Q

What is the maximum altitude at which the outflow valves close completely?

A

14,500ft

35
Q

What does the baggage isolation valve do?

A

It is a normally open valve which connects the passenger cabin to the baggage compartment for pressurization. When closed it shuts off pressurization to the baggage compartment. (21-43)

36
Q

What protects the baggage compartment from negative pressure issues during descent?

A

There is a negative pressure-relief valve connecting the compartment to the atmosphere.

37
Q

Why is the nose cone slightly pressurized?

A

To ensure a positive airflow for cooling of the electronic equipment. (21-44)

38
Q

What cools the nose cone on the ground?

A

A fan which shuts off with proximity switches once airborne. (21-45)

39
Q

What powers the HP1 valve?

Into what position will it go if the power source is lost?

A

HP1 valve is electrically operated.

If power is lost the HP1 valve will fail in whatever position it was in when the power was lost.

40
Q

Why is the baggage compartment off limits after 41,000ft?

A

Because if the rotors would burst on an of the engine the shrapnel could pierce the baggage compartment. (This according to our instructor)

41
Q

How much pressure and temperature is provided by the LP bleed air from each engine at T/O power?

How much pressure and temperature is provided by the HP bleed air from each engine at T/O power?

A

30 psi and 518 F

217 psi and 806 F
