Facts (Part 4) Flashcards
Define density altitude for high and low altitudes
High altitudes have a low density of air, and low altitudes have a high density of air
What is the relationship between air density and drone performance?
The thinner the air (less density) the worse the performance of the drone
What is a weather front?
When cold air hits warmer air and the division between the two is a front
What is wind shear?
Sudden drastic changes in wind speed – they can happen at any altitude?
What is structural icing?
When ice forms on the part of the UA or wings – you need some type of precipitation for this to happen - must be below 0 degrees celsius
What is the lifecycle of a thunderstorm?
Cumulus, Mature, Dissipating – mature is the most dangerous – during dissipating stage, downdrafts can occur
What is the relationship with humidity and UA?
Humidity makes the air hazy and decreases visibility
What type of air is the most unstable?
Hot and humid air
Where is turbulence caused?
It is caused in air that is unstable and showery
What are the characteristics of stable air?
Poor visibility and steady rain
