What does it mean when a pilot says “Landing in runway niner”
Means the runway directly east at 90 degrees – they drop off a zero – so runaway 27 would be 270 degrees relative to the airport
What are your compass degrees?
North is 0 degrees – East is 90 – South is 180 – West is 270
What does it mean when a pilot calls in and says they are midfield, downwind of runway 13?
Runaway 13 = 130 degrees – downwind means they are flying opposite direction of 130 degrees - drawing it out, means that they are east of the runaway
