Factors affecting EWT Flashcards
MSM
LTM:can be retrieved to STM e.g questioning
STM: must be rehearsed to be encoded into LTM
Tulving
Semantic:stores knowledge of the world- everyones semantic is diff-eye witness is subjective
Episodic: EWT reliant on episodic mems- have to be retrieved consciously
Misinformation effect
Post event information interfering with the memory of the original event
e.g Loftus Bug´s Bunny exp
Reconstructive Memory
Distortion: incorrect memories that map onto existing schemas.
Simplification: remembering the gist of events but lacking details
Rationalisation: changing unfamiliar parts to fit in with own culture
Transformation: Using schema based knowledge to interpret situations.
Reconstructive hypothesis
two bits of info go into one memory- info gathered from event, info supplied after-intergrated and merge together-unable to know where it came from.
Weapon focus
witness focuses on the weapon not the offender-sig lower recall of details on the offender.
Yerkes-Dodson Law
as arousal/stress increases, performance improves up to the optimum point, where it starts to decrease
