Political parties supported change so that they would gain the votes of new voters, In 1867 the conservatives by proposing giving more men the vote.In 1918 the liberal- led government gave all men and some women the vote.

The conservatives usually opposed extending the right to vote although Led by Benjamin Disraeli they proposed changes in 1867 so that working class men might vote for them.

in 1867 there were only really two political parties to vote for, so any voting rights would have minimal change in the country

The Liberals passed the 1872 Secret Ballot Act which allowed people to cast their votes in secret to reduce the threat of intimidation or threat to vote for a particular party.
The Liberals then gained more working class votes as their bosses or landlords often bullied them into voting conservative showing political advantage was the most important factor.
