Facing Multiple Limpers Flashcards
Facing multiple limpers at 18BB+
Your main concern is…?
What range will the additional limpers have?
You should limp behind with…?
As you get later in position….?
Your main concern should be the initial limoers range and strength.
Usually subsequent limpers will have a weak range. Tricky limpers tend to raise here.
You should limp behind with hands that flop well.
As you get later in position you can limp wider, as you have fewer people to act and more info about the limpers hands.

What do you often have to play, and how should you play it?
How should you act when eveyone checks to you (postflop)?
You often have to play top pair with a marginal kicker due to your wide limps.
Be cautious and get away from reverse implied odds quickly.
If everyone checks to you and you have a weak top pair…
…bet 50% pot at flop.
If you get a single caller, consider a small bet @ turn…
…and maybe a small bet @ river depending on circumstances + ranges (etc)
Vs multiple limpers at 18+bb, when you are in late position.
What should you do with strong value cards preflop?
As the initial limper becomes trickier…?
JLs recommended ranges includes some strong value cards. Raise these preflop (with his usual “pot sized raise formula) to extract value.
As the initial raiser becomes trickier, raise with a tighter range and call with the lower end of your premium cards (e.g. 88 , AJo, ATs, KJs, QJS)

What should you remember about premium hands preflop?
With premium hands preflop, you still want action.
Raise, but not so much that they’ll all fold.
Even if you get several callers, you’ll still own more than your share of the equity, even if you dont win as frequently. In the long run you will make more money.
Do not raise so large that you force them to play well.
Vs multiple limoerd at 18+ bb
What should you do with garbage hands?
What should you do with hands “almost but not quite good enough to call”
Garbage hands = fold.
Even with multiple limpers these do not have enough postflop equity.
Sometimes you can bluff with hands that are “almost but not quite good enough to call”. These might be worth a raise if you think you have fold equity.

How do they react to raise sizes? What sizes ?
Besr in mind…?
Remember, they tend to call small raises and fold to big ones.
So, bluff =10BB,
But raise to 6bb if you want a call.
Bear in mind some players will eventually spot this and adjust … but many will remain oblivious.

When you are in the SB….
What should you be inclined to do ?
If you have a really weak hand…?
Be more inclined to call with a wide range (but still raise your best premiums)
If you have a really weak hand, consider if a large raise will steal the pot - but if you get called, check/fold postflop unless you make top pair+
Vs multiple limpers at 18bb+
What should you do if you know someone yet to act likes to raise limpers?
What about tricky limpers ?
If somoene yet to act likes to raise limpers and you have a premium hand, consider limping/calling.
While it is possible to encounter a tricky limper doing this after an initial limp, the vast majority just raise their premiums at that point.

When is the best position to bluff
Its typically best to bluff in late position so if they call, you are playing IP postflop.
Vs limpers…
When should you avoid raising?
Avoid raising when it is likely you will have to fold to a 3 bet.
Vs multiple limpers at fewer than 18bb
What is now more profitable, on average?
What do people tend to do more of, at these stack depths?
It is now typically more profitsble to steal the pot preflop if you have a non-premium hand (rather than playing it postflop)…
…but as always assess ranges and calling tendencies - whats the fold equity?
At these stack depths, people tend to call more often with hands like 4-4 , so bear in mind your fold equity might be lower now.
When you limp behind and someone raises…
What does your strategy depend on?
As more players see the flop, you should…?
Your strategy depends on
— how large is the raise /pot odds
— how will the others react?
As more players see the flop, be more inclined to call with hands that make flushes and sets
(consider your pot odds)
Vs multiple limpers at fewer than 18bb
If you are considering pushing, what should you remember?
When should you not limp behind at this stack depth ?
Whats a good tactic if you are worried about being raised?
If you are pushing, you probably only need to win 45% of the time to break even.
Do not limp behind if you are likely to get raised off of your hand - which happens more often at this stack depth.
Play tight + steal.
When you limp behind and someone raises..and you have a medium or short stack.
If you are raised by a maniac and everyone folds…how should you react?
What size works best?
If you are raised by a maniac and everyone folds, consider a 4 bet or all-in if you think their range may be weak - especially if you have blockers (A2) or a good hand (99)
This works best when your all in is between 4x and 7x their raise.
When you limp behind and someone raises
When you have offsuit hands or the weaker suited hands…?
If you get the vibe they are strong…?
If you wish to 3-bet becuase you’ve got a premium hand, what size do you use?
Unless you have great pot odds, you want to fold your weaker offsuit and weaker suited hsnds.
If you get the vibe they are strong, dont be afraid to fold unless you are also very strong or have great odds,
If you’re looking to 3-bet and you want action, use a 2.4x reraise to keep them in/get them to call.
