What is a Le Fort 1 Fracture?
- Fracture runs across the lower face including the hard palate and alveolus
What is a Le Fort 2 Fracture?
- Pyramidal, extending variably upwards in the midline to involve the ehmoids.
- Associated with leak of CSF
What is a Le Fort 3 Fracture?
- More transverse but uniformly higher hen Le Fort1.
- Separates the face from the skull.
What other regions are force transferred to in a Zygoma fracture?
- Orbit and Zygomaticofrontal suture.
- May have subcut emphysema.
What is the most fractured facial bone and how does it present?
- Nose fractures
- Will be depressed or displaced laterally
What are S&S nasal fracture?
- Epitaxies
- Swelling
- Deformity
What is the process of handling Pt’s teeth?
- Do not let the tooth dry out
- Do not handle the teeth roughly
- Store in fresh milk or saline – NOT TAP WATER
What types of trauma are common with the ears?
- Lacerations and contusion
- Chemical and thermal burns
What are the treatments of ear injuries?
- Direct pressure to control bleeding
- Cold compress to reduce swelling
Why are blowout fractures seen?
- Because the eye is stronger than the bone.
What is hyphaemia?
- The pooling of blood in the anterior eye
List the signs and symptoms of the penetrating eye injury.
- Displacement of the pupil
- Prolapse of intraocular contents
- Evidence of intraocular foreign body or infection
- Reduced visual acuity
- Hyphaemia
What occurs to the eye in an Alkali chemical burn?
- Alkali will react with the proteins in the eyes and cause destruction of the cells and softening of the tissue
- Will penetrate the cornea and anterior chamber faster
What occurs to the eye in Acid chemical burns?
- Immediate and sever pain.
- Will see destruction of the surface – however, it will be rare to penetrate.
What are the signs and symptoms of Arc eye?
- May affect both eyes
- Painful, weeping and red
- Sensation of a foreign body
What are common causes of retinal haemorrhages?
- Hypertension
- Occluded retinal vein
- Diabetes
- Shaken baby syndrome
