Wool properties (4)
Absorbent Moisture regain is high. They tend to be warmer than others. They have poor resistance to alkalis but good resistance to acids. They have good elasticity
Cotton properties (5)
Comfortable to wear Slow to dry Absorbs water Shrinks when wet Stronger wet rather than dry
Nylon properties (3)
Strong
Elastic
Dries quickly
Polyester Properties (4)
extremely strong.
Polyester is very durable
resistant to most chemicals, stretching and shrinking, wrinkle resistant.
It is easily washed and dried.
Acrylic properties (3)
Warm to wear
Fast drying
Durable
Woven fabrics
Woven fabric is made by weaving or knitting yarns
Woven fabrics are made up of a weft (going across the fabric) and a warp (going down the length of the fabric).
Non woven fabrics
Non-woven fabrics are made by bonding or felting fibres together.
The fabrics use fibres rather than yarns; these are laid randomly or in a uniform way to make web-like layers. They are held together by either the felting or bonding process.
Non Woven Properties (6)
not very strong can be made in a range of weights do not fray can be made from recycled fibres Non-woven fabrics may be weaker when wet cheap to produce
Woven fabric properties (2)
Can fray on edges
Can be stretched diagonally
