F #2 Review Flashcards
How do you calculate overall enthalpy of a reaction
enthalpy change of products minus enthalpy change of reactants
How can entropy change be determined?
product concentration versus reactant concentration. Products>reactants = decrease in entropy, reactants > products = increase in entropy
Primary amino acid structure
AA amino and carboxy terminus bind to create polypeptide chains
Which amino acid(s) is not optically active?
Gly(G) is the only amino acid that is not optically active
Which amino acid(s) have a phenol functional group
Tyr(Y) is the only amino acid with a phenol group
Sound waves travel quickest through which medium? (gas, liquid, solid)
Waves travel quickest through solids, then liquids, and most slowly through gases
How do you calculate speed of sound through a medium?
take the square root of the difference of the bulk modulus and density of the medium
Nonpolar amino acids
leucine, isoleucine, glycine, alanine, methionine, valine, proline
What amino acid has the ability to create disulfide bonds
Cysteine and Methionine
What amino acids have hydroxyl groups in their side chain?
Serine, Threonine, and Tyrosine
What amino acid can be categorized as having a polar and non polar side chain?
Tyrosine
What kind of bonds form between amino acids in a polypeptide chain?
Peptide bonds
What kind of bonds form between amino acids in a cross linkage?
Typically covalent bonds
What structures arise from the ectoderm?
nervous system, epidermis, eye lens, inner ear, epithelia of nose, mouth, and anus
What structures arise from the mesoderm?
musculoskeletal, circulatory system, excretory system, gonads, and adrenal cortex
