Eyesight and Illusions Flashcards
Main components of the eye
- Corena and lens
- Retina
- Optic Nerve
Light passes through the cornea and lens, which focus the ray onto the retina, which translates it to electric signals to optic nerve to our brain
Name of the ability to change focus from far and close objects
Accommodation, and decays with age
Retina is divided into two:
- Cones (foveal vision)
- Rods (peripheral vision)
The cones
Sensitive to color, small details and distant objects. More effective in daylight then nighttime.
The rods
Sensitive to movement but not to detail or color. Effective in both daylight and darkness, and responsible for peripheral vision (off-center vision)
Empty field myopia
The natual tendenacy of the eye to focus at 1-2m, and not at infinity as we might think (like looking out the window of a blue sky)
Autokinesis
Staring continously at a single light against a dark background will look like its moving
False horizon visual illusion
Can be caused by tilted clouds. Always trust instruments
Runway slope visual illusion
Upslope, will look longer and you feel you are high on slope.
Runway size visual illusion
Runway that is larger will apear closer then really is.
Nearsightedness name
Myopia
Myopia meaning
Cannot see distant objects. Optical images form infront of the retina
Which part makes accomodation
The crystalline lens
