What are the three layers of the eye?
Fibrous coat, vascular coat, nervous coat
What is the sclera?
Dense, white CT into which insert the extrinsic muscles of the eye.
What is the cornea?
Continuous with sclera, but transparent to allow light to project to the retina.
Since the cornea is avascular, how does it derive its nutrients?
From the aqueous humor via diffusion
What is the conjunctiva?
Thin, clear mucous membrane that covers the anterior, external part of the eye and lines the internal parts of both eyelids
Which 2 structures produce fluid that bathes the anterior surface of the eye and keeps it moist and nourished?
Conjunctiva and lacrimal gland
What is MALT?
Mucosa-associated lymphatic tissue
Where is MALT?
Found within the conjunctive as well as immunoglobulins, which it secretes
