Equal velocity in both directions; associated with spinocerebellar disease or MS

On or near eyelid, interfering with vision
2 diseases associated with congenital cataracts?
Rubella and galactosemia
What is a stye?
Inflammation and infection (usually staph) of sebaceous glands of eyelid
Treatment of stye?
Warm compresses, possibly topical antibiotics, I&D if no improvement, NO systemic antibiotics
What age should a blocked tear duct be referred to ophthalmology?
12 months
What is a chalazion?
Lipogranuloma caused by chronic inflammation of meibomian glands–painless!!
What occurs with orbital cellulitis that is different from periorbital cellulitis?
High fevers, decreased EOM, impaired vision, proptosis
Treatment of corneal abrasion?
Topical antibiotics
Treatment of a chalazion?
Referral to ophthalmology for excision
With retinitis pigmentosa, what do you see on fundoscopic exam?
Pallor in center of optic disc, narrow arterioles coming off optic disc, retinal pigment deposition on periphery
Who is screened for ROP?
BW<32 weeks; BW 1500-2000g with unstable clinical course
When to screen for ROP?
31-34 weeks post-conception or 4-6 weeks after birth, whichever is later
Greatest risk factor for ROP?
Prematurity and low birthweight
