Eyes Flashcards
Lozenge shaped neither prominent nor deep set, dark but may shade to mid-brown in light coloured hounds. Expression calm and serious. Light or yellow eye highly undesirable.
Basset hound
Neither bulging nor set too deeply in the orbits. Dark brown in colour. The conjunctiva is not apparent. The expression is lively.
Basset Fauve de Bretagne
Of oval shape, large, dark, not showing white; friendly and intelligent expression. The conjunctiva must not be apparent.
Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen
Quite large with an intelligent expression, showing no white. The conjunctiva must not be apparent. The brows surmounting the eyes stand forward but must not obscure the eyes. Eyes should be of a dark colour.
Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen
Medium size, almond shaped, set obliquely. Dark except in chocolates, where they can be lighter. In dapples one or both wall eyes permissible.
Dachshund standard and miniature
Medium size, almond shape, set well apart, with clear energetic and yet friendly expression. Not piercing. Colour bright dark reddish-brown to blackish brown in all coat colours of the dogs. Wall-, fish- or pearl eyes in dapple dogs are not desired but shall be tolerated.
Eye lids well pigmented.
Dachshund rabbit
Eyes are from hazel to dark brown in colour, almost round and not deeply set. Penalize yellow or light eyes.
Black and Tan Coonhound
Rather large, set wide apart in skull. Round in shape and dark brown in color (never lighter than light brown). Eye rims tight and close fitting. No excess third eyelid should be apparent. Expression is a typical pleading hound expression, never wild or cowering.
