Long and deep throughout length, breast bone prominent but chest neither narrow nor unduly deep. There should be adequate clearance between the lower part of the chest and the ground to allow the hound to move freely over all types of terrain. Ribs well rounded and sprung, without flange, extending well back. Back rather broad; withers and quarters of approximate same height, though loins may arch slightly. Back from withers to inset of quarters not unduly long.
Basset hound
Back: Short for a basset and broad. Never swaybacked.
Loin: Broad and muscular
Chest: Deep and broad.
Ribs: Rather rounded
Abdomen: The underline rises only slightly towards the rear.
Basset Fauve de Bretagne
Really that of a basset but avoiding an exaggerated length.
Back: Long, broad and really straight, never saddle-backed, and starting to arch its junction with the loin. Withers very slightly protruding.
Loin: Solid, well muscled, slightly arched.
Chest: Quite broad and well let down to elbow level.
Ribs: Rounded, never flat nor cylindrical. Thorax slightly less broad at elbow level to facilitate the movement.
Flank: Rather full, belly never tucked up.
Skin: Quite thick, often marbled in the tricoloured subjects.
Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen
Back: Straight, topline level.
Loin: Muscled.
Croup: Well muscled and quite wide.
Chest: Not too wide. Rather deep, reaching the elbow level.
Ribs: Moderately rounded.
Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen
Moderately long and full muscled. Sloping shoulders, back reasonably level, blending harmoniously between withers and slightly arched loin. Loin short and strong. Breast bone strong, and so prominent that a depression appears on either side of it in front. When viewed from front, thorax full and oval; when viewed from side or above, full volumed, so allowing by its ample capacity complete development of heart and lungs. Well ribbed up, underline gradually merging into line of abdomen. Body sufficiently clear of ground to allow free movement.
Dachshund standard and miniature
Topline: Blending harmoniously from neck to slightly sloping croup.
Withers: Pronounced.
Back: Behind the high withers, topline running from the thoracic vertebrae straight or slightly inclined to the rear. Firm and well-muscled.
Loins: Strong, broad and well-muscled.
Croup: Broad and sufficiently long, not horizontal or sloping too much.
Chest: Sternum well developed and so prominent that slight depressions appear on either side. The ribcage, seen from the front, is oval. Seen from above and the side, it is spacious, giving plenty of space for heart and lung development. Ribs carried well back. With correct length and angulation of shoulder blade and upper arm, the front leg covers the lowest point of the sternal line in profile. Dewlap not pronounced.
Underline and Belly: Slight tuck up. Chest smoothly transitioning to the belly in a continuous line.
Dachshund rabbit
The back is level, powerful and strong. The dog possesses full, round, well sprung ribs, avoiding flat sidedness.
Chest reaches at least to the elbows.
Black and Tan Coonhound
The body should show considerable depth (extending well down toward the elbow), rather than excessive width, to allow for plenty of lung space. Forechest is moderate, fairly even with the point of the shoulder. Girth of chest for males is 26 to 34 inches, for females 23 to 30 inches. Ribs are long and well-sprung, tapering gradually towards a moderate tuck-up. Back is muscular and topline slopes downward slightly from withers to hips. Loin is broad, well-muscled and slightly arched.
