Coat Flashcards
Smooth, short and close without being too fine. Whole outline clean and free from feathering. Long haired, soft coat with feather highly undesirable.
Basset hound
Skin: Rather thick, supple.
Coat: Very rough, harsh, rather short, never woolly or curly. The face shouldn’t be too bushy.
Basset Fauve de Bretagne
Hard, not too long and flat, never silky or woolly. The fringes should not be too abundant, the belly and inside of the thighs must not be bare. Eyebrows well pronounced but not covering the eye.
Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen
Harsh but not too long, never silky or woolly.
Skin: Quite thick, often marbled in tricolour subjects.
Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen
Smooth-Haired
Dense, short and smooth. Hair on underside of tail coarse in texture. Skin loose and supple, but fitting closely all over without dewlap and little or no wrinkle.
Long-Haired
Soft and straight, or only slightly waved; longest under neck, on underparts of body and behind legs, where it forms abundant feathering, on tail where it forms a flag. Outside of ears well feathered. Coat flat, and not obscuring outline. Too much hair on feet undesirable.
Wire-Haired
With exception of jaw, eyebrows, chin and ears, the whole body should be covered with a short, straight, harsh coat with dense undercoat, beard on chin, eyebrows bushy, but hair on ears almost smooth. Legs and feet well but neatly furnished with harsh coat.
Dachshund standard and miniature
SKIN: Tight fitting, well pigmented. Colour: see under respective colour definitions.
SMOOTH-HAIRED COAT
Hair: Short, dense, shiny, smooth fitting, tight and harsh. Not showing any bald patches anywhere. Tail: fine, fully but not too profusely coated. Somewhat longer guard hair on underside is not a fault.
WIRE-HAIRED COAT
Hair: With exception of muzzle, eyebrows and ears, perfectly even close-fitting, dense wiry topcoat with undercoat. Soft hair on the head (top knot) and on the paws is highly undesirable. The muzzle has a clearly defined beard.
Eyebrows are bushy. On the ears, the coat is shorter than on the body, almost smooth. Tail well and evenly covered with close-fitting coat.
LONG-HAIRED
Hair: The plain shiny coat, with undercoat and close fitting to body, is longer at the throat and on underside of the body. On the ears the hair must extend beyond the lower edge of ears. Distinct feathers on rear side of legs. Achieves its greatest length on underside of tail and there forms a full flag.
Dachshund rabbit
The coat is short but dense to withstand rough going.
Black and Tan Coonhound
Medium coarse and lying close to the body, appearing smooth and glossy. Not rough or too short.
Bluetick Coonhound
