high temporal resolution, distinguish phases of the mvt (Like pre and post mvt initiation), settings can be manipulated automatically, examine a signal as a function of time (eye quietness)

results showed no difference in performance or addressing times, swing times longer for experts, an experts EOG trace is the same for each putt while a novice has variable QE duration across putts, experts had a longer QE duration post mvt

QE (total): under no threshold setting is experts’ QE longer than novices’ QE- for most settings experts have shorter QE (pre) and longer QE (post) than novices

different settings of EOG influence the durations of the QE and the eyes are never completely quiet

different approach, measures “quietness” within specific time intervals, no thresholds/algorithm issues, we can examine time dynamics
Eye Quietness (EQ)
variability of the EOG within short intervals- greater variability= less EQ, smaller variability= more EQ - measured in uV as a function of time

measured EOG (QE, EQ), ECG (visual processing), kinematics sensors (mvt duration) - results showed longer QE for > threshold and EQ independent of threshold, inhibition of the occipital (visual) regions increases 2s preceding mvt initiation (due to increased alpha)- conclusion: QE not associated with visual processing but with mvt duration
