Treatment of dry eye?
Involves the use of artificial tears to lubricate the eye and maintain moisture levels. e.g. Systane ultra lubricant eye drops Hypromellose Optrex
What are the symptoms of infective conjunctivitis?
Usually spreads from one eye to the other White of eye looks pink Swollen eyelids Sticky discharge Gritty feeling eyes
Treatment of infective conjunctivitis?
Chloramphenicol antibiotic drops
(Used from age 2)
It should be used for 5 days and then discarded
What is blepharitis?
Is a common eye infection which rims the eyelids becoming inflamed and swollen.
Symptoms include: Burning Soreness Stinging Itchy eyelids
What are the treatment options for blepharitis?
Clean eyes twice a day using wipes or a cotton ball
Golden eye/ brolene drops can be used to minimise symptoms
Treatment options for a stye?
Self-limiting
A warm compress to encourage the release of puss
When to refer eye conditions?
Pain in eye No improvement after OTC product Blurred vision Glaucoma Child under the age of 2 Sensitivity to light Customer is pregnant/ BF
Treatment options for allergic conjunctivitis?
Is caused by an allergy e.g. to pollen or animals
Symptoms can include: sneezing watery eyes runny nose itchy eyes
Treatment:
Opticrom allergy eye drops
Antihistamine
Treatment options for irritant conjunctivitis?
Optrex sore eyes
Blink intensive tears
Should a patient be using contact lenses with eyedrops?
Contacts should not be worn if a person has infective conjunctivitis
