A

Treatment options for constipation?

A
  1. Lifestyle advice
  2. OTC
    Stimulant laxatives e.g. bisacodyl, dulcolax, senokot, senna (quick 8-12 hours)
    Take at night to have a result by the morning
    Short-term use only

Bulk-forming laxatives e.g. fybogel, isphagula husk (longest 24-36 hours)
Should be taken with plenty of water.

Osmotic laxatives e.g. lactulose and macrogol, movicol.
Lactulose is gentle but can take up to three days to work

Faecal softeners e.g. docusate or glycerin suppositories
