Eye 1 Flashcards
1
Q
Development of the eye
A
- ectoderm invaginates = neural tube
- optic vesicle –> neural tube bulges out
- future neural retina invaginates
- lens + cornea develop from ectoderm
2
Q
Tunics of the eye
A
Corneoscleral coat (cornea, sclera – protect + shape)
Uvea (choroid, ciliary body, iris)
Retina (macula, fovea)
3
Q
Choroid
A
- Bruch’s membrane
- Choriocapillaris = fenestrated capillaries (to retina)
- Choroidal stroma = vessels, melanocytes
4
Q
Ciliary Body
A
- ciliary muscle (radial and circular)
- ciliary processes
- continuation of choroid –> Accommodation
- inner = neural epithelium
- outer = retinal pigment epithelium
5
Q
Iris
A
- separates anterior + posterior chambers — Adaptation
anterior limiting membrane (fenestrated)
stroma (nerves + melanocytes)
muscle layer (dilator = sympathetic, sphincter = para)
posterior epithelium (neural/retinal pigment epithelium)
6
Q
Three chambers of the eye
A
Anterior chamber = cornea + lens (aqueous humor)
Posterior chamber = iris + lens (aqueous humor)
Vitreous cavity = behind lens (vitreous humor)
7
Q
Pathway of Aqueous Humor
A
- produced by epithelium of ciliary processes
- posterior –> anterior –> trabecular meshwork
- Canal of Schlemm –> aqueous veins
8
Q
Cornea
A
- epithelium
- Bowman’s membrane (no regenerate, keep pathogens)
- stroma (fibroblast, no vessels)
- descemet’s membrane
- endothelium
9
Q
Lens
A
- zonula fibers attaches lens to ciliary body
- anterior lens epithelium
- cortical lens cell fibers
- nuclear lens cell fibers (ghost cell nuclei)
