To throw in the towel is to quit/give up.
“We are behind now but let’s roll with the punches, we can win this.”

To roll with the punches is to not be defeated by difficult times. Adapt and move forward.
He is a beginner, he might be out of his depth in the strength and conditioning class.

To be out of your depth means you do not have enough knowledge/strength etc. for a situation.
E.g. When people talk about Politics, I am out of my depth.
“I don’t know anything about yoga but I’ll give it my best shot.”

Give it your best shot means to try something (often something difficult).
“Don’t give up, you’ve got this.”

You’ve got this means you can succeed.
“I have a new client starting today, so I need to show her the ropes.”

To show someone the ropes is to teach someone how to do something (such as a job or a process).
