What are the forms required for a citizen exposure?
FRD-399-A “…Intake Form”
FRD-399-B “…Expsoure Brochure” with the incident # written on it.
What are the 3 steps for a citizen exposure?
- ) Their right is guaranteed through Code of Virginia 32.1-45.1 - “Deemed Consent.”
- ) Submit the FRD-399-A to on duty SAFO
- ) Citizen receives a copy of the FRD-399-B with the incident # on it.
Immediate Actions for an employee Animal Bite
- ) Thoroughly clean the bite area with soap and water ASAP and bandage.
- ) Request Animal Protection Officer
- ) Notify duty SAFO
- ) If possible, note the type of animal, keep contained or within sight until APO arrives
- ) Transport employee to hospital
- ) Submit injury packet (71, 315-A & 317’s)
Source Patient Refusing Transport
1.) inform the PT of the exposure and transport.
a.) Submit 314 and FRD-107 Consent to Collect and Test
Blood
2.) If PT refuse transport, EMS Supervisor may request to draw blood for testing.
Source Patient Refuses Blood Draw
- FRD can pursue legal authority to obtain blood
- Source PT can appeal the court order….then treat exposure as if there is no source patient blood available and advise IDP.
Immediate Actions for an Infectious Disease Exposure
- Secure the sharp (if there is one) in its own sharps
shuttle - Clean exposed area immediately with disinfecting
cleaner, saline or hand soap. - Report exposure to on duty SAFO or SICPO by cell
phone
Additional Actions for Infectious Disease Exposure
- Use cell phone, not the radio
- Notify BC, EMS Supervisor,
- Get Source PT. name, medical record #, trauma name &
DOB - Complete FRD-314
(Injury packet also for needle stick or animal bite) - Make note in report “employee jones sustained…”
- DO NOT MAKE ENTRY IN LOG BOOK
