explorers or boys messing about Flashcards
paragraph 1
the author implements expert opinion to strengthen there point that the mission was conducted incorrectly to undermine the two boys.
“experts questioned the wisdom” the verb “questioned” conveys fairness but more deeply infers that they don’t think they should have been doing that.
“editor of Janes helicopters.” Implementation of credentials conveys the authenticity of the sources cause the readers to trust that the boys did not seem to know what they were doing.
“Nothing short of a miracle” implementation of eye witness adds credability and achievement of a metaphor conveys how lucky they were.
paragrpah 2
“Scrambled into there lifeboat.” here the childish verb of “childish” conveys immaturity and eexstatic behaviour.
“bottoms kicked and sent on there way.” belittling image of school boys undermining them and for the reader to question the severity of the punishment necessary.
“trusty helicopter” cliche of “trusty” conveys the amatuerish behaviour of them
paragraph 3
the journalist creates a personal economical responsibility causing the reader to side with the journalist in this passage.
“taxpayer gets bill” high modality infers to the reader that they are paying and therefore immediately infuriates reader.
“highly unlikely” again high modality causes the reader to be infuriated by the men.
“britain and chile” implements a conjunction to emphasise how many people they have affected.
Paragraph 4
the author conveys the experience of the men however this is clearly undermined throughout the story.
“despite there experience, this is not the first time they have hit the headlines for the wrong reason.” The conjunction here negatively portray there experience as it is followed by a negative questioning and therefore undermining there skills
“explorers or boys messing about” although people may see them as explorers to begin with it is soon inferred to them that they are not such people and the author does this immediately shutting any idea of profesionalism down.
“Mr smith “claims” to have been flying since the age of 5” claims suggests low modality to the reader that these men are not experienced.
