Outline Ellis’s ABC model (1962)

A

A- activating event: usually a negative event that causes irrational beliefs

E: Cohen et al (2019) tracked he development of 473 adolescents and regularly measured their cognitive vulnerability. It found that showing cognitive vulnerability predicted later depression

E: it only explains the reactive depression (as a result of the environment) not endogenous depression where there is no clear link to a stressful life situation
