Learning can occur indirectly or directly through observation.
Vicarious reinforcement: learning through others- if they are rewarded (positive) or punished (negative).

Self Efficacy: the extent to which an individual believes they can model a particular behaviour.

Reciprocal determinism: interaction of three factors- personal (physical, cognitive, emotional), behaviour and environmental.

Bandura (1961)
Aim: investigate whether observing an adult behaving aggressively (bobo doll) influences child’s behaviour.
* 36 boys, 36 girls, 3 conditions- aggressive role model, non-aggressive role model, control grouo
* 3 stages (observing model with doll/toys, seperate room with toys, third room= child frustrated)

Results: Exposure to aggression increased aggressive behaviour
* Children imitate same-sex models
* Boys= physical aggression,
girls= verbal aggression
