What is validity?
If the experiment has measured what it has claimed to.
What is reliability?
If the experiment could be repeated to get the same results.
What is an extraneous variable?
A variable other than the IV which impacts the DV and therefore the validity.
What is credibility?
If the experiment is trustworthy and ethical.
What are the seven ethical guidelines?
Consent, Deception, Confidentiality, Debriefing, Withdrawal, Protection from harm, Privacy.
What is the acronym to remember the ethical guidelines?
Can Do Cant Do With Psychology Participants.
What is a lab experiment?
Takes place in an artificial setting in controlled conditions.
What is a field experiment?
Takes place in a real life setting under a real life situation.
What is a hypothesis?
A prediction of what is going to happen.
What are the types of hypothesis?
Null-> The IV will not affect the DV.
Directional-> The results will change in a certain way.
Non-directional-> The results will change in some way.
What sort of sample is preferred?
A large sample to make averages more accurate and to better represent the population.
What are the different sampling techniques?
Volunteer-> Participants put themselves forward out of their own free will.
Opportunity-> The researcher pursues people who are available and fit the criteria.
Random-> Every participant has an equal chance of being selected.
Stratified-> Population is separated into stratas which have the same proportion of each group.
What are the four ethical principles?
Integrity, respect, competence, responsibility.
