Experimental methods Flashcards
1
Q
what is the aim
A
a general statement of what the researcher intends to investigate; the general purpose of the study
2
Q
what is the hypothesis
A
a clear, precise, testable statement that states the relationship between variables to be investigated- stated at the outset of the study
3
Q
what are the two types of hypothesis
A
directional and non directional
4
Q
what is a directional hypothesis
A
this states the expected direction of your results
5
Q
what is a non-directional hypothesis
A
this states that there will be a difference but does not state the direction
6
Q
how do you know what hypothesis to select
A
- directional- existing evidence showing a particular outcome
- non-directional- no previous research and may be uncertain which way your experiment may go
