experimental design Flashcards
1
Q
independent group design ?
A
- 2 separate groups of ps experience 2 different conditions of the experiment
- all ps experience 1 level of the IV
- peformance is then controlled
2
Q
repeated group design ?
A
- all ps experience both conditions of the experiment
- each p experiences condition A and then would late be tested again in condition B
- 2 mean scores from both conditions would be then compared
3
Q
matched pairs design ?
A
- ps are paired together on variables relevant to the experiment
- e.g matched based on IQ
- then 1 person from each pair would b allocated to a different condition
- then same as independent design
4
Q
strengths of independent group design ?
A
- order effects are not a problem
- ps are less likely to guess the aims
5
Q
strengths of repeated measure design ?
A
- participant variables are controlled so higher validity
- fewer ps are needed (less time consuming)
6
Q
strengths of matched pairs design ?
A
- ps only take part in 1 condition so order effects and demand characteristics are less of a problem
