Experimental Design Flashcards
What is a hypothesis?
It is a statement written as a fact
Explains a particular observation
It also involves independent and dependant variables
What is an independent variable?
It can be altered
What is a dependent variable?
These are dependent on the independent variable
Why must you only test one variable at a time in an experiment?
To make sure that it isn’t something else causing the change
What is the first stage of designing an experiment?
Must have a large sample size
Why do you need a large sample size for experiments?
Allows for genetic variation
What is the second stage of designing an experiment?
Describe the treatment of groups
What is the third stage of designing an experiment?
Identify the control group
What is a control group?
A group that is tested under normal circumstances for comparison purposes
What if there is no control group obvious in the experiment?
State that all groups are control groups are controls against eachother
What is the fourth step of designing an experiment?
Identify the independent, dependent, and controlled variables
How many control variables should be mentioned?
3 - 4 variables
What is the fifth step of designing an experiment?
Duration experiment
What is the sixth step of designing an experiment?
How will the results be shown
What is the seventh step of designing an experiment?
What results would support the hypothesis
