Experience and response Flashcards
What are the four ways we can respond?
- A Resource
- Recreation & Adventure
- A Spiritual Connection
- A Study Site
Resource?
A resource can be described as something from the
the environment that supplies supports or aids humans in
some way.
The environment has always played a big part in providing
resources in order for humans to survive; whether it is a
source of water or food, or for materials such as rock and timber for shelter.
Landowners and land managers often view
environments as a resource.
Seeing the land as a resource could be a negative
response if it leads to increased exploitation and
destruction of environments.
Recreation and adventure?
One of the most common values held in relation to the
Environment.
Recreation is typically characterised by the goals of
fun, pleasure and adventure.
What are some examples of how we use the
environment for recreation?
* Snowboarding
* Rock-climbing
* Swimming
* Hiking
* Riding
Spiritual Connection?
This can be hard to define….
However, taking time out from the city and everyday life
to be amongst nature & reconnecting with the natural
world are examples of spiritual experiences.
In order to have a spiritual experience, you don’t have
to visit a natural environment to ‘do something’,
instead you can visit and just ‘be’.
Having a spiritual connection could be sleeping out
under the stars, tasting the air after the rain, watching
the wind rustle through the trees or simply closing
your eyes and listening to the sound of the ocean.
