Q

What are the issues in body if you have Flat back?

A
  • Reduction in the curve on the lumbar spine
  • Pelvis tilts posterior which causes Slight flexion in hips and knees forcing head to come forward
  • Pectoral and hip extensors are tight
  • hip flexors and scapular muscles are weak
  • abs are usually strong cuz person is using them to stand straight rather flex forward

Exercises: Squat kickbacks, lunge kickbacks, bridging

Q

What are the issues in body if you have Sway back?

A
  • hips forward from your plumb line giving increased posterior pelvic tilt. Makes it appear as if you are leaning back.
  • Hips forward (increased lordosis)
  • Increased posterior pelvic tilt
  • Thoracic kyphosis (outward curve)
  • weak abs and hip flexors
  • tight gluteus Maximus and hamstrings which allow the pelvis to shift and tilt
  • pectoral muscles are tight and pull the head forward with a weakening of neck extensors, scapular muscles, and spinal extensors

Exercises: chest expansion, lunge kickbacks, squat kickbacks, table kickbacks, bridging to get to neutral

Q

What are the issues in the body if you have Lordoisis?

A
  • inward curve of the lumbar spine
  • normal curve in the cervical and thoracic spine
  • increased lordosis can occur with weak ab muscles, gluteal muscles and hamstrings
  • Tight hip flexors and spinal extensors

Exercises: bridge curl, hamstring curl, lunges

Q

What are the issues in body if you have Kyphosis

A
  • outward curve of the thoracic spine
  • increased kyphosis can present with weak neck flexors and scapular muscles and tight neck extensors and pectoral muscles

Exercises: chest stretching, chest expansion, need to open up the chest and work/strengthen the back (back extension work)

Q

What are issues in the body if you have rotator cuff issues

A
  • The feeling of a dull ache deep in the shoulder
  • Pain during recurring activities
  • Trouble sleeping on the side that is injured due to pain
  • Limited range of motion or ability to move the arm to reach behind your back or up and back, such as brushing your hair
  • Arm weakness

Do not make client do shoulder raises if they have shoulder issues, they can do shoulder rotator exercises (never go above shoulder height) if they have weak shoulders because it’s a lot of pressure on the shoulder joint

Q

Hip Issues - Osteoarthritis

A
  • The cartilage cushioning the bones of the hip
wears away, causing the bones to rub against each other, leading to hip pain and stiffness.
  • Post-traumatic arthritis can result from a
serious hip injury or fracture, where the cartilage may become damaged and lead to hip pain and
    stiffness over time.
  • When a hip joint has been damaged by arthritis, everyday activities like walking, climbing stairs, or getting in and out of a chair may be painful or difficult.
  • The hip may feel stiff and can even feel uncomfortable while resting. An altered gait pattern can occur as a result of compensating for the pain, and because walking can be painful or difficult, weakness in the muscles surrounding the hip is a common occurrence with arthritis.

Modifications: reduce range of motion, lower weight. Change setting on the reformer to reduce range of motion.

Q

Hip Issues - Rheumatoid arthritis

A
  • A chronic autoimmune disease where your immune system attacks the synovial membrane and secretes inflammatory substances that destroy the joint structure.
  • The chronic inflammation of the synovial membrane damages the cartilage, leading to joint pain and
stiffness, often accompanied by fatigue and depression.

Exercises for Bow Legged

A

Strengthen the external rotators of the hip
- any side lying with strap
- clam shell
- ham strings
Avoid hyper-extending the knees
Lengthen the adductors, if tight. The adductors are the internal rotators of the hip.
- With feet in straps on the Reformer, lie in a straddle and let the resistance pull the legs open.
