Exercise 18 Flashcards
Palpebra
Eye lid
The membrane that covers the front of the eye and covers the eyelids
Conjuctiva
Gland that secretes the aqueous layer for the tear film
Lacrimal Glands
Duct leading from the eye to the nose to drain tears from the eye
Lacrimal Duct
These structures collect tears from the eye lid and transport them to lacrimal sac through the lacrimal canaliculus
Lacrimal Punctum
Lacrimal “canals”
Lacrimal canaliculus
Upper end of the lacrimal duct that holds the tear film
Lacrimal sac
End of the lacrimal duct that empties into the nasal canal
Nasolacrimal duct
Looks the eye outwards
Lateral Rectus
Looks the eye medially
Medial Rectus
Looks the eye upwards
Superior Rectus
Looks the eye downwards
Inferior Rectus
Internally rotates and depresses the eye, superior side
Superior oblique
Rotates the eye, inferior side
Inferior oblique
White part of the eye
Sclera
Covers the iris and the pupil, clear
Cornea
Middle layer of the eye, between the sclera and retina
Choroid
Part of the eye that holds the iris to the choroid
Ciliary body
Multiple ciliary body
Ciliary muscles
Folds on the ciliary muscle, depicted as white
Ciliary process
The colored part of the eye, constricts the pupil to taper eye
Iris
The black part of the eye that lets light onto the retina
Pupil
Last layer of the inner eye, contains rods and cones
Retina
Small area where light hits the retina best, small yellow area. NOT THE BLIND SPOT
Fovea centralis
Where the optic nerve enters the eye
Blind spot
Where the blind spot is, and nerves of the eye
Optic nerve
Behind the iris, bends light to hit the eye better
Lens
Liquid within the eye
Vitreous humor
Liquid between the lens and the cornea
Aqueous humor
