Exercise 16 Flashcards
End of the main spinal cord, filum terminale and cauda equina extend from this
Conus medullaris
Extension off the central portion of the conus medullaris
Filum terminale
Ligaments connecting the spinal cord to the pia mater
Denticulate ligaments
Enlargement of the spinal cord where the nerves of the upper limbs come off
Cervical enlargement
Enlargement of the spinal cord where the nerves exit the cord to the lower limbs
Lumbar enlargement
Nerves coming of the medullary conus, extension of the spinal cord
Cauda Equina
Roots coming off of the dorsal side of the spine
Dorsal/ventral roots
Roots coming off of the anterior side of the spine
Anterior roots
The enlargement on the dorsal root where the two roots come together
Dorsal Ganglion
After the combination of the roots, where the two break off again, going towards the ventral side
Ventral Rami
After the combination of the roots, where the two break off again, going towards the dorsal side
Dorsal Rami
Dorsal extension of gray matter in the spinal cord
Dorsal horn
Extension of the gray matter towards the lateral side of the spinal cord
Lateral Horn
Extension of the gray matter towards the ventral side of the spinal cord
Ventral Horns
Thin strip of gray matter that surrounds the central canal of the spinal cord
Gray commissure
