Exercise 17 Flashcards
External ear that catches sound and pushes it into the inner ear canal
Pinna
The two parts of the ear, small bumps, opposite one another
Tragus and antitragus
Extension off the bottom of the ear
Ear lobe
Ridges on the top of the ear, used to catch more sounds
Helix
Large tube between the outside of the ear and the tympanic membrane
External auditory meatus
Ear drum
Tympanic membrane
Inner ear bone, MIS, M
Malleus
Inner ear bone, MIS, I
Incus
Inner ear bone, MIS, S
Stapes
Cavity after the tympanic membrane, houses the MIS
Tympanic cavity
Where the MIS sits
Auditory tube
Division between the middle ear and the inner ear (covered by the stapes)
Oval Window
Allows vibrations to travel from the middle ear to the inner ear, sits on the cochlea
Round Window
Upper divide of the Cochlea cross-section, contains perilymph
Scala vestibuli
Lower divide of the Cochlea cross-section, contains perilymph
Scala Tympani
Divides the scala vestibuli and the cochlear duct
Vestibular membrane
Flap acting on the hairs within the cochlea cross section
Tectorial membrane
Base of membrane that is the separation between the cochlear duct and the scala tympani
Basilar Membrane
Hair on the basilar membrane that are visible
Outer hair cells
Hair cells within the basilar membrane that are not visible
Inner hair cells
Carry nerve signals from the hair cells and is the large group of ganglion on the cochlear cross section
Spiral Ganglion
Fibers that are on the cochlear nerve
Fibers of the cochlear nerve
Liquid filling the Scala Vestibuli and the Scala Tympani
Perilymph
Liquid filling the cochlear duct, inside the cochlear cross section
Endolymph
The bony outer wall of the inner ear, consists of the vestibule, semicircular ducts, and cochlea
Bony Labyrinth
The membranous inner wall of the inner ear, within the vestibule, semicircular ducts, and cochlea
Membranous Labyrinth
Ends of the semicircular ducts
Ampulla
Closest structure inside the inner ear to the cochlea
Saccule
Proximal to the saccule but further from the cochlea than the saccule
Utricle
Comes of the Vestibule, which is located where all the semicircular ducts come together
Vestibular Nerve
