Exercise 15 Flashcards
Lobe beneath the frontal bone
Frontal Lobe
Lobe beneath the parietal bones
Parietal Lobe
Lobe beneath the temporal bone
Temporal Lobe
Lobe beneath the occipital bone
Occipital Lobe
Sulcus in the center of the brain, separating the parietal and frontal lobes
Central Sulcus
Sulcus dividing the frontal and parietal lobes from the temporal lobe
Lateral Sulcus
Divides the left and right hemispheres
Longitudinal Fissure
Outside layer of the brain, covers the cerebrum
Cerebral cortex
The ridges on the brain
Gyri
Parts between the Gyri
Sulci
Circular “C” shape (Cross section) in the brain part of the cerebrum
Corpus Callosum
Circular part inside of the Corpus Callosum, regulates sleep and consciousness
Thalamus
Regulates things like fluid levels, heart pressure, and a link to the endocrine system. Below the thalamus
Hypothalamus
Beneath the cerebellum, anterior, and center of the brain
Infundibulum
Proximal to the Infundibulum
Pituitary gland
Above the Thalamus, and connects the limbic system
Epithalamus
Gland towards the posterior of the corpus collosum, and anterior to the cerebellum
Pineal gland
Produces CSF and is located in the lateral ventricles
Choroid Plexus
Raised bumps under the brain, proximal to the pituitary gland, and responsible for spatial memories
Mammillary Bodies
White matter within the cerebellum, “Tree of life”
Arbor Vitae
Rounded extension on the cerebellum, “Worm” like.
Vermis
Rounded growths on the brain stem, links medulla and the thalamus
Pons
Extended portion of the spinal cord, below the pons.
Medulla Oblongata
Bumps between the cerebellum and the pons
Corpora Quadrigemina
Bumps that make up Corpora Quadrigemina, superior side
Superior colliculi
Bumps that make up Corpora Quadrigemina, inferior side
Inferior Colliculi
Outer most meninges
Dura mater
Middle meninges
Arachnoid
Inner most meninges
Pia mater
Largest, first ventricles
Lateral ventricles
Ventricle after lateral ventricles
Third ventricle
Last ventricle
Fourth ventricle
Link between the lateral and third ventricles
Intervertebral Foramen
Link between the third and fourth ventricles
Cerebral aqueduct
Cranial nerves
