PGD - Patient group directions
PSD - Patient specific directions
Esn - Emergency supply

Supply of naloxone by individuals.

What is the MHRA guidance on supply???
The supply of medicines to other HCP’s and the need to obtain small quantities of a medicine from another pharmacy.
What are the rules on wholesale dealing???
Must be supplied as whole packs
Product must not be labelled
Cannot re-label or sell as a broken bulk.
Unlicensed medicines may not be supplied under wholesale dealing.
What are the rules for records for sale or supply???
If its POM’s it should be sold by wholesale from a registered pharmacy.
An entry must be made which includes stuff like date it was supplied, name, quantity, address, trade, business and purpose for supply.
When do you not have to make an entry in the register for wholesale or supply???
When a separate record is made.
A copy of the invoice is retained.
All orders and invoices must be kept for 2 years from the date it was supplied.
What are SSP’s???
Serious Shortage Protocols
This enables pharmacists to make amendments to prescriptions and can supply alternative medicine for those with short supply.
What can midwives do???
They can sell or supply;
All GSL
All P
POM containing Diclofenac, Hc acetate, Phytomenadione, Miconazole, Nystatin.
What can a Podiatrist do???
They can sell or supply any GSL
They can also sell or supply
Ibuprofen
Any P for external use e.g (Clotrimazole, Crotamicron, Econazole, Salicylic acid)
What can Optometrists do???
They can sell or supply
All GSL
All P
Certain POM’s which are NOT for parenteral administration e.g. (Chlorampenicol, Fusidic acid)
