Q

What waste products are formed in the liver?

A

–Nitrogenous waste
*Urea- Formed from: excess amino acids
*Uric acid- nucleic acids
*Creatinine- Creatine phosphate

–Non-nitrogenous waste
*Toxins and drugs
*Alcohol

–Bile pigments formed from breakdown of red blood cells ()
–Cholesterol Formed from breakdown of bile salts

Q

Name and explain functions of the different excretory organs

A

Kidney
➽Excretes NITROGENOUS and NON-NITROGENOUS waste.
Lungs
➽Excretes CO2 + a little 💧 and heat cause of cellular respiration.
Skin
➽Excretes sweat (H20, salt, urea). Sweat = excretion (gets rid of waste) + secretion (Helps maintain body 🌡️ cause heat = lost and body is cooled when we sweat)
Gut/Colon
➽Excretes bile pigments and cholesterol formed in liver, in the form of faeces (mucus + bacteria also in faeces)

Q

What is the function of the urinary system? And how does it carry out this function?

A

Maintain HOMEOSTATSIS by regulating: Volume + Concentration of body fluids.
How: By filtering + reabsorbing materials from 🩸

A

1.Renal corpuscle/Malpighian (in renal cortex)- Made up of:
Bowman’s capsule
+ Glomerulus

2.Renal Tubule -Made up of: Proximal convoluted tubule (in cortex)

Q

How is the kidney supplied with blood?

A

1.Renal artery- carries blood rich in nitrogenous waste to the nephrons.

2.Renal vein- carries purified deoxygenated blood from kidney to IVC.

Q

Stage 2 of functioning of kidney

A
