Excretion Flashcards
Excretion
The process by which waste and harmful substances produced by the body’s metabolism are removed from the body
Why is excretion important?
It prevents toxic metabolic waste substances from building up in the body.
It helps keep the environment within the body constant by maintaining the concentration of body fluids
Egestion
The process by which undigested dietary fibre and other materials are removed from the body as faeces
Metabolic waste excreted by humans
Carbon dioxide
Water
Urea
Bile pigments
Heat
Excretory organs in humans
Kidneys
Lungs
Skin
Liver
Osmoregulation
The regulation of the water content of blood plasma and body fluids
Waste Products Of Flowering Plants
Respiration: Carbon Dioxide (CO2)
Photosynthesis: Glucose and oxygen
Methods Of Excretion in Flowering Plants
Stomata
Transpiration
Mechanism of Lungs
Lungs help you breathe. They get rid of waste gas called carbon dioxide when you breathe out. This gas comes from your body’s cells.
Mechanism of Skin
Skin sweats to remove waste. It releases water, salts, and a bit of waste called urea. This helps cool your body down and keeps it clean.
Mechanism of Kidneys
Kidneys clean your blood. They take out waste like urea and extra water from your blood to make pee.
Dialysis
Dialysis is a medical procedure used to perform the kidney’s functions artificially when they are impaired or failing
Structure Of Skin
Epidermis
Sweat glands
Blood vessels
