Exchange at the capillaries Flashcards
how is tissue fluid formed
plasma leaking from the capillaries, the plasma then carries all dissolved substances into the tissue fluid.
How does tissue fluid allow exchange
It leaks and surrounds cells and exchange of nutrients and gases occurs and across the plasma membranes of cells
what is pressure is high at the arteiole end of the capillary
Hydrostatic pressure
what does hydrostatic pressure do
pushes blood fluid out of tiny gaps in capillary wall
what substances are allowed to leave the gaps of the capillary and which substances are left in
Leave the capillary- Plasma and dissolved substances
Cant leave- red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets are all too big
what pressure is higher at the venous end of the capillary
Oncotic pressure
what is the lymphatic system
A system which drains excess tissue fluid from tissues and returns it to the veins
What is the name of the vein which the lymph system returns tissue fluid to
Lymphatic system returns Tissue fluid to the body through the SUBCLAVIAN VEIN
what is the name of the fluid in the lymphatic system
LYMPH
Where are lymphocytes produced
Lymph nodes
Is hydrostatic high in blood plasma or tissue fluid
It is high in plasma and low in tissue fluid
is oncotic pressure high in plasma and tissue fluid
it is low in both
what cells does plasma, tissue fluid and lymph contain
Plasma- Red and white blood cells and lymphocytes
Lymph- Lymphocytes
Tissue fluid- neutrophils in infected areas
what proteins are in plasma
Plasma proteins
