Q

List the heart chambers and valves in CV circuity
What is pulseless electrical activity?
Horse heart rate is in the 20s bpm

A

Make sure to know terms (some have as many as 15 definitions)
The electrocardiogram shows dynamic information.
The heart can have electrical activity and not have mechanical activity. But, it can not have mechanical activity without electricity.
1. Heart ( a pump) Heart rate is the number of beats per minute
2. Two circular systems (e.g., pulmonary; systematic)
3. Tubes
Heart rate:
Preload: the volume of blood that returns to the RT atrium. The amount of blood in the heart before it contracts
Afterload: The force that the heart has to generate in order to eject its volume into other structures. Blood can only go in one direction bc they are one-way valves. It goes to aorta or pulmonary artery.
Contractibility: velocity in which it develops the contraction force.
The veins have one-way valves everywhere and prevent the blood from going backwards. Obstruction of valves associated with diabetes. Hydrostatic pressure.
Vessels are very elastic and receive blood flow easily.
The valves in the heart (anulous) is not as elastic bc cartilage.
Arterioles: small artery with high percentage of smooth muscle. They determine the distribution amount of blood to the tissues according to their need for oxygen.
