Say what you are covering – outline your structure – the
different parts
The purpose of a brief introduction
Tell me briefly that you understand
a) what the question means and
b) Define key concepts
Tell me briefly how you will answer the question:
a) Which theories/ models you will use
b) the orde
whats in the main body?
break into sections and paragraphs. Sub-headings (from
your structural plan) are good to help the reader and will keep you
focused – i.e. stop you waffling on!
Demonstrate that you understand key theories / models / concepts; can
apply them to practice; can critique them. This demonstrates
a) knowledge and understanding, b) application of knowledge, c) critical
evaluation

Spell out the key ‘takeaway’ point(s).
To make a final link between your answer and the
question – to underline that you have answered the
question.

conclude”

* For an exam it is less important to deliver a strong
conclusion compared to a coursework essay. I would say
a good introduction and main body have priority
