Exam Review Flashcards
Pure bread:
An individual that is homozygous (only has 1 type of allele for a given one
Hybrid:
A heterozygous individual for a given gene
Monohybrid cross:
The mating of individuals where 1 gene with 2 alleles being tracked
Dihybrid cross:
The mating of individuals where 2 genes with 2 alleles are being tracked
Test cross:
Crossing an individual who shows the dominant trait with a homozygous individual . (Tt x tt)
Incomplete dominance:
Alleles of genes that are not fully dominant or recessive. They blend with eachother
Polygenic traits:
(Multi factor traits) that are controlled by more than one gene (ex: height)
Pleiotropy:
Single genes that control multiple traits
Multiple allele traits:
Traits controlled by more than 2 alleles (ex: eye colour)
