- clear identification/definition of the observable actions/behaviours to be recorded
- this enables the behaviour to be measured objectively

- the students are unaware they are being watched so they do not have an opportunity to change their behaviour in the study spaces
- this means what they are doing is their natural behaviour in the library.

- CC explains acquisition of response, OC explains maintenance of response

- To regulate cell or organ activity within the body + control vital physiological processes in the body
- To release hormones from glands into the blood high bind with specific receptors in order to regulate the activity of cells or organs in the body
- E.g. the release of adrenaline leads to fight or flight response
