Exam Prep notes Gr 12 Flashcards
Virtual Memory
When a computer has physical memory shortages, the operating system will compensate by using both hardware and software to temporarily transfer data from RAM to disk
Shaped vs Unshaped
- Controlling the flow of data traffic to ensure that it adheres to predetermined limits/priorities
- Shaped traffic is controlled to maintain a consistent flow
- Unshaped traffic is allowed to flow freely with no restrictions
Capped vs Uncapped
- Capped is when there is a limit or maximum
- Uncapped is when there is no limit or the limit is not implemented
Access data types
Data types in Access determine what kind of data can be stored in a field of a table
* Text
* Memo- stores large amounts of text
* Number
* Date/Time
* Currency
* AutoNumber- Generates a unique number for each record
* Attachment- Stores documents and files as attachments
* Yes/No- Boolean values like true/false
CAPTCHA
- Completely Automated Public Turning test to tell Computers and Humans Apart
- It’s a challenge response test thats used to determine whether a user is a human or not
eSATA
- External Serial Advanced Technology Attachment
- It’s an external interface for SATA drives that provide faster data transfer than USBs
ISO
- International Organisation for Standardisation
- How much light may enter a camera sensor
Algorithm
- A step by step procedure for formula when completing a task or solving a problem
- In computers they are used for data processing and performing calculations
Resolution
- The number of pixels that can be displayed on a screen, expressed in width x height
Refresh Rate
- The number of times per second that a display updates its image, measured in hz
- Indicated how slowly motion appears on the screen
Access Points
- Devices that allow for wireless devices to connect to wired networks using wifi
- Almost like a bridge betweeen wireless devices and wired network infrastructure
AUP
- Acceptible Use Policy
- Outlines the rules and guidelines when using a server or network
EULA
End User License Agreement
* Contract between end-user and software developer that stipulates the rules and permissions for using software
Cloud Storage vs Cloud computing
Cloud Storage: Storing data on an internet server instead of locally on a storage device
Cloud Computing: Providing computer services on the internet on a pay-per-use basis
BYOD
Bring Your Own Device
* A policy that allows employees to use their own personal device for work
Eco Mode Printers
- A setting on printers that allows the printer to reduce environmental impact and power usage
- Reduce printing quality
- Switch to duplex printing
Spoofing
A trick that tricks people through falsifying information
* In networking it’s when the source address is made to appear as if its from a trusted source
Erros in Excel
- Syntax error: When the formula has an error in its structure or syntax
- Value error: When formula has an invalid value or cannot perform a calculation
- Circular reference error: When a formula directly or indirectly references its own cell
- # DIV/0!: When a formula tries to divide by zero
- # N/A: When a value isnt available or cannot be found
Primary Key (Access)
A unique identifier that ensures that each record can be in a table can be indentified and retrieved
Smart device
A device that is able to connect to the internet or other devices, collect and process data, make decisions, and perform tasks with little to no human effort/intervention
VR and AR
- Virtual Reality : technology that imitates and stimulates a realistic environment, usually through headsets
- Augmented Reality: technology that overlays virtual objects or digital information onto the real environment, usually through smartphone cameras`
Types of software
- Freeware software: Is offered for free with limited features/functionality, can be distributed for free
- Shareware software: Is initially offered for free but has a charge in order to continue to use it or to get access to advanced features
- Proprietary software: It belongs and is controlled by a company or individual athat controls how it may distributed, used and modified.
LAN port
A physical port that connects to a local area network to enable communication between devices within the network
VGA
Video Graphics Array Port
A port used to connect a computer to a display device or monitor for transmitting analogue radio signals
HDMI
High Definition Mulitmedia Interface
A digital interface thats used to transmit video signals and audio between devices, usually connecting computers to monitors or TVs
Types of printers
- Inkjet: liquid ink is sprayed onto paper
- Dot Matrix: tiny pins strike ink-soaked ribbon to create small dots into paper
- Lazer: uses toner powder and heat to fuse onto paper
USB Type C port
A port with a reversible connector used to transmit power, video signals, and data at high transfer speeds
DIMM slots
Slots on the motherboard used to insert RAM modules
SATA
Serial ATA
Cables: Used to connect storage devices like HDD or SSD to motherboard
Port: The ports on the motherbaord provide connection for SATA cables to attach to storage devices
Transfer power and data files: they provide both data transfer and power delivery between storage devices and the computer
USB Hub
- A device that expands the amount of USB ports on a computer to allow multiple devices to be connected at once
