To pass laws for the good of the country or state
What are the two houses in federal parliament?
Lower house = house of reps
Upper house = senate

House of reps = 150
Senate = 76… 12 from each state and 2 from each territory

House of reps = local community people
Senate = states and territories

Upper house= legislative council

To look over and organise their particular areas of expertise

Investigate and make regulations on a specific range of issues. Eg- environment protection authority
What are government departments?
Government decides on the general policies to be administered. Eg human services
What are executive councils?
Makes regulations on behalf of statutory authorities and government departments. Eg graffiti prevention act
What are local councils?
Make local laws for their local area. Eg garbage collection laws
