What are primary sex organs?
Gonads
Male: testes
Female: ovaries
What are accessory sex organs?
Ducts, glands, external genitalia
What do GnRH, FSH, and LH mean?
GnRH: produced by hypothalamus; causes pituitary gland to release FSH and LH
FSH: causes sustenocytes to release chemicals
LH: men; causes cells to release testosterone// female; triggers steroid hormones from ovaries
What are the main sex hormones and what do they do?
Estrogen: regulates growth of female reproductive system
Testosterone: regulates male sex drive and production of sperm
Progesterone: prepares the lining if uterus for an egg to grown
How do hormonal levels change over the course of a persons lifetime?
Men will have lower testosterone
Women will have lower estrogen causing menopause
