Exam 3: review Flashcards
1
Q
ACID-BASE RX involving weak acid or base ionic equation
A
The weak acid or base does not dissociate into ions, so you leave it in it’s acqeous form but do not split it into ions.
2
Q
Strong abases
A
- Group I hydroxdes
- Ba, Sr, Ca hyroxides are slightly soluble in water, but what does dissolve is 100% ionised, so we consider them also strong bases
3
Q
Strong acids
A
HCl, HBr, HI, nitric, sulfuric, chloric, perchloric.
Noted weak acids: HF, HCN, and others.
4
Q
Crucial oxidation number rules
A
- F atoms always have a ON of -1
- halogens have -1 except when with oxygen
- oxygen normally has -2 except with fluoride, and in peroxides (-1), and superoxides(-0.5).
