Exam 3: Knee Flashcards
Rectus Femoris
Origin: anterior head = AIIS posterior head = upper margin of acetabulum
Insertion: top of patella to the tibial tuberosity, by way of the patellar tendon
Action: hip flexion, knee extension, anterior pelvic rotation
Vastus L, M, I
Vastus Lateralis Origin: intertrochanteric line, anterior/inferior part of greater trochanter, upper ½ of linea aspera
Vastus Medialis Origin: medial condyloid ridge, linea aspera
Vastus Intermedius Origin: upper anterior 2/3rds surface of femur
Insertion: Tibial Tuberosity
Action: Knee extension
Gastrocnemius
Origin: medial head=posterior side of medial condyle of femur lateral head=posterior side of lateral condyle of femur
Insertion: Achilles tendon to posterior side of calcaneous
Action: knee flexion, plantar flexion
Popliteus
Origin: posterior part of lateral condyle of femur
Insertion: upper posterior-medial part of tibia
Action: knee flexion, knee internal rotation
Plantaris
Origin: lateral condyle of femur
Insertion: Achilles tendon to calcaneous
Action: assists in knee flexion, plantar flexion
