Insertion: inner surface of medial cuneiform & 1st metatarsal bone
Action: dorsiflexion, inversion
Extensor Digitorum Longus
Origin: lateral condyle of tibia, upper part of fibula
Insertion: dorsal part of 2nd-5th toes
Action: extension of toes, dorsiflexion, eversion
Extensor Hallucis Longus
Origin: middle part of fibula
Insertion: great/big toe
Action: extension of big toe, dorsiflexion, inversion
Peroneus Tertius
Origin: lower 1/3 of fibula
Insertion: dorsal surface of 5th metatarsal
Action: dorsiflexion, eversion
Peroneus Brevis
Origin: lower 2/3rds of fibula
Insertion: lateral side 5th metatarsal
Action: plantar flexion, eversion
Peroneus Longus
Origin: upper lateral 2/3rds of fibula
Insertion: plantar surface of medial cuneiform & 1st metatarsal
Action: plantar flexion, eversion
Gastrocnemius
Origin: medial head=posterior side of medial condyle of femur lateral head=posterior side of lateral condyle of femur
Insertion: Achilles tendon to posterior side of calcaneous
Action: knee flexion, plantar flexion
Soleus
Origin: posterior surface of proximal fibula & tibia
Insertion: Achilles to calcaneous
Action: plantar flexion
Plantaris
Origin: lateral condyle of femur
Insertion: Achilles tendon to calcaneous
Action: plantar flexion, assists in knee flexion
Tibialis Posterior
Origin: posterior-lateral part of tibia, upper posterior part of
fibula, upper part of interosseous membrane
Insertion: plantar surface of navicular, cuboid, the cuneiforms, & 2nd - 4th metatarsals
Action: plantar flexion, inversion
Flexor Digitorum Longus
Origin: medial-posterior 1/3rd part of tibia
Insertion: plantar surface of 2nd-5th toes
Action: toe flexion, plantar flexion, inversion
Flexor Hallucis Longus
Origin: middle posterior 2/3rds of fibula
Insertion: plantar surface of big toe
Action: big toe flexion, plantar flexion, inversion
