Exam 3 Flashcards
Three types of phonological processes?
Syllable structure
Substitution
Assimilation
7 types of syllable structure processes
Unstressed syllable deletion Reduplication (doubling) Diminutization Even thesis Final consonant deletion Initial consonant deletion Cluster reduction
Define diminutization (syllable structure process)
Adding. /i/ to they target word. “Cuppy”
Define even thesis
Inserting an unstressed vowel between or in front of two consonants “a school” “balue “
7 types of substitution process
Stopping Deaffrication Velar fronting Depalatization Backing Liquid gliding Vocalization
Define vocalization
Substitution of a vowel for a syllabic liquid “er” and “air” replace by a schwa
Define liquid gliding
Substitution of a glide for a prevocalic liquid
6 assimilation processes
Labial assimilation Velar assimilation Nasal assimilation Alveolar assimilation Prevocalic voicing (toad to dode) Post-vocalization devoicing
4 test that evaluate phonological progresses
- Hudson’s
- Khan- Lewis
- CAAP- clinical assessment of articulation and phonology
What are five processes to work on first?
- Non Developmental Processes
- Impact on Intelligibility
- PercentageofOccurrence
- Stimulability
- Age of Development
What are considered non developmental processes?
Glottal replacement
Backing to velars
Initial consonant deletion
3 processes that affect intelligibility from most to least
Syllable structure process
Substitution
Assimulation
Define paired stimuli approach
Using a key words to teach one speech sound at a time.
It is done in three major steps
Minimal contrast approach
Attaches meaning to error productions as well as target productions. Contrast the two productions, not in phonetic differences, but in meaning.
Define Deliberate speech approach
As client produces slower speech, he becomes more aware of errors produced in his own speech and how they are produced correctly by the clinician. Try to get the child to slow down his rate of speech.
