Exam 3 Flashcards
From superficial to deep what is the order of the fascial layers?
investing cervical fascia
pre tracheal fascia
pre vertebrale fascia
retropharngeal space
which fascia layer splits to provide a sheath for trapezius & SCM & is continuous with nuchal ligament?
investing cervical fascia
which fascia layer encases infra hyoid muscles?
pre tracheal
which fascia layer blends with; fibrous pericardium, neck viscera & carotid sheaths also creating slings for digastric & omohyoid mm?
pre tracheal
which fascia layer attaches to cranial base, ALL, endotracheal fascia?
pre vertebral
which fascia later encases longs capitis/colli, scalene, deep cervical muscles?
pre vertebral
what allows for free movement of the esophagus, larynx & trachea?
retropharyngeal space
what are the borders of the submandibular triangle?
inferior border of mandible, anterior/posterior digastrics
what are the major contents of the submandibular triangle?
- Submandibular gland
- Submandibular Nodes
- Hypoglossal N
- Nerve to mylohyoid
- Fascial artery & submental (deeply)
what are the borders of the carotid triangle?
Superior: posterior belly digastric
Lateral: anterior border of SCM
Medial: superior belly omohyoid
what are the contents of the carotid triangle?
- Common Carotid artery
- Carotid Sheath (common carotid a, internal jugular v, vagus n, asa cervicalis (lies on sheath))
what is the border of the muscular triangle?
Superolateral Border: superior belly omohyoid
Medial Border: median plane
Inferolateral Border: anterior border of SCM
what are the contents of the muscular triangle?
infra hyoid mm, & neck viscera
what are the borders of the submittal triangle?
Inferior Border: body of hyoid bone
Lateral Border: L & R anterior bellies of digastric mm
what are the contents of the submittal triangle?
mylohyoid mm
many small lymph nodes & small veins which unite to form anterior jugular vv
what are the supra hyoid muscles?
Mylohyoid
anterior/posterior digastric
stylohyoid
geniohyoid
what are the 3 things that the supra hyoid muscles have in common?
- form substance of the floor of the oral cavity
- anchor the hyoid so the tongue muscles attached can work
- elevate hyoid & larynx to facilitate swallowing & vocalizing
where is the lesser supraclavicular fossa located?
b/w 2 heads of SCM
why is the location of the lesser supraclvaicular fossa important?
inferior part of the internal jugular vein is deep in this space
what are the boundaries of the lateral cervical region?
Anterior: posterior border of SCM
Posterior: anterior border of trapezius
Inferior: middle 3rd of clavicle
Apex: meeting of SCM & trapezius on superior nuchal line of occipital bone
Roof: investing layer of cervical fascia
Floor: splenius, levator scapular, posterior & middle scalenes covered w/ preverterbal fascia
what is important about the occipital triangle?
spinal accessory nerve, trunks of brachial plexus, cervical plexus, transverse cervical artery courses through
